(International beer) English Bitter: The Style
No commentsBy Shawn Burgy
English Bitter is one of the most satisfying of styles.
To the homebrewer this can be one of the easiest styles of beer to make.
Bitter as a style has many different tastes and surprises.
Most are usually bittersweet and hoppy.
English Bitter gets this from generous supply’s of British noble hops.
The hops of which I speak are Challenger, Wye Target,Fuggles and the most prestigious of them all East Kent Golding’s.
There are many regional takes on this style as well.
One of the more famous was Boddingtons Bitter.
This beer was once a staple of the Greater Manchester area before Inbev bought them out.
Sadly The Strangways Brewery in Manchester has since been shut down.
This was a very good example of an English Bitter that was once respected by me.
Another example of this style was Mansfield Bitter.
Again sadly the brewery in Mansfield,Nottinghamshire has since closed.
It’s no longer a staple of Mansfield where it’s adored across the Midlands.
Very few examples of true English Bitter are available in the states.
There however are many examples of Pale Ale across the board.
English Bitter in included is in the Pale Ale family.
There are actually three category’s for English Bitter.
Theres Ordinary Bitter with a gravity between 1.035 - 1.040.
I like my Ordinary Bitter between 1.038 and 1.040.
Usually hopped with 25-35 IBU’s.
Then theres Special/Best Bitter with gravity’s between 1.040 - 1.048. Hop IBU’s around 25-40.
Also there is Extra Special Bitter or ESB for short.
Gravity’s usually between 1.048 - 1.060.
This usually gets generous IBU’s around 30-50+.
Respectively there almost always malty and bittersweet.
Usually the flavours don’t change much between the three examples.
The higher gravity beers tend to accentuate the flavorful British malt.
Grain wise you want to seek out a very good floor malted British two-row barley.
My favorite malts in this case are Thomas Fawcett Marris Otter and Halcyon.
This is a family owned malting company in West Yorkshire.
Examples of beers made with Thomas Fawcett malts are Theakstons Old Pecuiler, Bass Pale Ale. Just to name a few.
Be sure to use good fresh British hops as well.
So try making them and make them your own.
I think you will be impressed.
I have been brewing since the craze in the 90’s, I stuck to it. Now I’m sharing what I know with you. So give the site below a visit today.
It will be evolving and growing with many resources for the new and old brewer alike.

Lose 5 Pounds In A Week With This Weekly Weight Loss Plan
By Cheow Yu Yuan
To lose 5 pounds in a week, you need to develop a consistent approach to weight loss. The objective of your weight loss plan is to reduce the overall fat in your body, thus giving you a leaner stomach and slimmer waist line.
A consistent weight loss plan requires your focus, dedication and discipline. These 3 elements are extremely important if you want to see promising results in a week. Therefore, what you need to do now is to prepare both your mind and body, and get ready for action. When you start any weight loss program, it is advisable to stay positive to work for results. If you are the type who gets impatient easily, you will tend to give up too soon.
Before we touch on the weekly plan, let me remind you that you need to stretch and warm your body up before any exercises. Before you set out to work out your muscles, a little stretching is needed in order to prevent you from getting any injury. If you feel that you have gone way beyond your limit, stop immediately. Everything should be done in moderation and you should find the right level of exercise that suits you. Now having said this, let us get on to the weekly weight loss program.
1. First day. For the first day, take a long and steady walk for at least 3 minutes. Remember to do some stretching before and after the walk. This simple exercise will take up very little of your time for the day. With less than an hour, you have taken a good first step to an effective weight loss program.
2. Second day. On the second day, you need to do exercise that focus on your upper body. By building up your upper body strength, it will help you to go through the whole program for the week. Good upper body exercise includes push-ups, and lifting weights which focus on biceps, triceps, and shoulders.
3. Third day. For the third day, you will jog for at least 20 minutes. Do not be too worried about how fast you run. The objective here is do slow jog for at least 20 minutes, and if you need to jog really slowly, do it. Then, perform some lower body workout in the evenings.
4. Fourth day. Have a good rest! Stretch frequently on this day and use this rest day wisely to sort out any negative thoughts in your mind. No junk food!
5. Fifth day. Start the fifth day with a good 15 minutes walk. Then exercise your lower body in four sessions of workouts, follow this up with another 15 minute walk, and another four sessions of lower body workout.
6. Sixth day. This is a good day to do some sports such as badminton or football. Just be careful not to injure yourself. If you want to do some low impact exercise, swimming is a good choice.
7. Last day. The last day of the week is a time for you to solicit the support of the people you care about. Have them to enjoy a brisk walk in the park. With their support, you will be able to stay positive to your goal of slimming down.
If by the first week you are able to stick to your weight loss plan, you stand a good chance to achieve your weight loss objective. Patience is a virtue. As long as you stay dedicated and focused on your weight loss plan weekly, you will soon be able to dress confidently again without the embarrassment of having a protruding tummy.

Home Brewing Tips:Listen To The Experts
By Rohit Chopra
When you set out to make your own beer, or wine or port, you want to make sure that you follow the instructions to a T. You would not make a casserole by just throwing any old thing into it, right? Of course you would not. Well, the same goes for your own home brewed beer. To start, you must first learn how to brew your own beer. You can find information on home brewing, as well as other home brewing tips not listen here, by looking on the internet or by buying a good book on the subject. Home brewing is no secret, many people know how to do it, but few people can actually get it right. Its those people who cant get it right that often give up, right before they have the ultimate home brewed beer. The first home brewing tip, then, is not to give up.
Dont Give Up
When home brewing your own beer, you often start with the ingredients that you can buy on the internet or though mail order companies. These ingredients vary depending on what kind of beer you are looking to make. Whether its a light beer or a dark lager, you want to make sure you get the right ingredients. Once you have those ingredients, using the instructions you have obtained, follow them and see what happens. Most of the time, you wont get it right the first time. You may not even get it right the third or fourth times. Just remember that all the major beer companies took years to perfect their brews, so remember that when you are making your own beer. Home brewing tip number one is never give up on your home brewing aspirations. You will get it one day but you must, just like everything else, practice at it.
Have Patience
Home brewing tip number two is to have patience. Beer takes a while to ferment. Its this fermentation process that gives beer its proper taste as well as potency. If the beer is tasted before this process is able to complete itself, you wont be happy with the results. Just remember that everything takes time, and that includes home brewed beer. So, your second home brewing tip is to have patience, relax and dont taste your beer until the process is completed to its fullest. You will know after some practice when your beer is done and when the process is complete. Patience is a virtue and its most important when making your own home brewed beer.
The home brewing tips above are the most important. Beyond those, you just have to follow directions. However, you should always remember to have fun with it. Many people enjoy their hobby of home brewing their own beer and you should never feel as though its hard work. Making your own beer gives you a sense of accomplishment and it allows you to have complete control over the taste and potency of your home brewed beer. Just remember the above home brewing tips, dont give up, have patience and have fun.
